No RSVP needed.\nPost Date: 02/13/2025 4:00 p.m. \nThe City of Simi Valley will host a Remembrance Ceremony in honor of the late Mayor Fred D. Thomas\, whose immeasurable contributions to the community will be commemorated on Saturday\, March 1\, 2025\, at 11:00 a.m. in the Simi Valley Civic Center Courtyard\, located at 2929 Tapo Canyon Road. \nThe ceremony will bring together family\, friends\, and community members to honor Mayor Thomas’s legacy and reflect on his life through heartfelt remarks and personal stories shared by family\, friends\, and community leaders. The event will be held rain or shine. All are welcome to attend to remember and pay tribute to Mayor Thomas’s life and contributions. No advance registration is needed. \nMayor Fred Thomas\, who passed away peacefully on January 21\, 2025\, served as Simi Valley’s Mayor since 2022 and was re-elected to a second term this past November. Known for his compassion\, dedication\, and community-first approach\, Mayor Thomas spent decades serving Simi Valley through various leadership roles. \nPrior to his time on the City Council\, he served for 20 years on the Boys & Girls Club board of directors\, including four years as Board President\, and as a member of the Simi Valley Gang Task Force\, Crime Prevention Task Force\, and the Simi Valley Police Foundation. His tireless efforts earned him numerous awards\, including the Simi Valley Community Foundation Humanitarian Award and the Boys & Girls Club Champion of Youth Award. \nIn addition to his public service\, Mayor Thomas was a successful entrepreneur\, founding a national direct mail marketing firm and owning a commercial printing company. A proud Simi Valley resident since 1994\, he was deeply committed to youth advocacy\, public safety\, and strengthening the community. He is survived by his daughters\, Brandee (Brandon) and Kristen (Jay)\, his grandchildren\, Shane and Summer\, and his partner\, Ashley. \nIn lieu of flowers\, those who wish to honor Mayor Thomas may direct donations to one of the following organizations that were close to his heart: Boys & Girls Club of Moorpark & Simi Valley\, Soroptimist International of Simi Valley\, or the Simi Valley Police Foundation. \nVisit the City of Simi Valley’s Website
